Vero Mango

History

Vero Mango is the best-known candy treat made by the Dulces Vero candy company. In the US, Bartel USA and various other online sellers market the products to consumers on behalf of the Vero company.

This is a tropical mango-inspired candy with notes of tamarind and a lot of spice. You will enjoy a fruity, sweet, and savory taste experience with this little lollipop that you cannot get with other candies that are sold in other markets.

The Chili and tamarind flavoring of this product is actually dusted on with a powder. This is one of the more unique aspects of eating this little treat, and it is one of the things that is most commented upon by those who have never had it before. The candy is also shaped a bit like an upside-down quotation mark, and it does not come out of the bag looking particularly delicious. You really have to trust that the
dusty and slightly boring-looking candy in your hand will be delicious if you have never eaten it before.

One of the downsides to eating too many of these candies is that the spices, combined with the hard lollipop, can lead to mouth abrasions. You will be wise to enjoy these one at a time and not overdo it.

Many people say that they would rather that the sucker part of the candy be soft and not so hard, but that is not how these products are designed.

Dulces Vero is actually the largest maker of hard candies in Mexico. The company is 50 years old, and they actually help support a variety of different plant products and offer lots of jobs in Mexico as well.

They are a central part of the economy in Mexico, and thus everyone knows about their products and can probably tell you about all of the best ones to try if you have never given Mexican candies a shot.

The Vero Mango is not their only sucker product, so you can start with any of their other treats to give them a shot if you are scared of the spices on the Vero Mango.
Vero sells products to many different countries, and their marketing and overall branding design is much more like the candy companies that sell in the US. You will find that the products look really bright and colorful when compared to the usually more sober and serious product designs that are common in Mexico. This makes the products stand out a lot on the shelves in Mexico, and it makes it really easy to
track down these little treats if you are visiting their home country.

One of the other things that is really unique about this company’s marketing choices is that the suckers come in six-, ten-, and forty-piece bags. This is not how suckers are usually marketed in other countries unless the suckers are mini-size and really small. They advertise the smaller bag sizes as being shareable, just like the huge bag, and this is a central part of the advertising of this product.

Varieties

The company also makes some other sweet and spicy candies that are similar to the Vero Mango.

  • Vero Elotes- This is a mildly spicy sucker that is covered in chili powder and which is made with a
  • corn-shaped strawberry lollipop. This candy is a little less spicy than some of the other offerings made by the company.
  • PicaFresa – this is a chili-powder-covered strawberry gummy, which is really ideal if lollipops are just not for you.
  • PicaTamarind- This is a gummy that is really sour and spicy and might be one of the spiciest products in the company’s stable.
  • PicaMelon- Putting spicy seasoning on fresh watermelon is really common in Mexico, so this treat is just a remake of a classic summer snack.
  • Rellerindos- This candy has a liquid filling that is flavored with tamarind, but it is spicy and sweet on the outside.

Vero Mango Taglines:

This candy product has a lot of really cool taglines that are used for advertising it. You can expect the bags to show different taglines which are fun and creative. Common taglines include:

  • Hey Good L@@king!
  • Spice Up Your Life
  • Turn Any Moment Into a Fiesta
  • A Daringly Delicious Treat!

These taglines barely describe all the flavor in these little candies, but they do a good job of getting you prepared! This is a really flavorful snack that really does live up to the taglines and promises on the bags and the product boxing. You might find them to be too spicy for you, but if you love spicy flavors with sweet flavors, you will love this combination of flavors and textures. There are few snacks as unique as
this one.

Livery

The Vero Mango product is sold with a really cheerful livery which is bright yellow, and which shows the strangely-shaped lollipops with sunglasses on and a big grin. You will find the tagline, “Let’s Turn Up the Heat!” on most of the various product packaging. When you order this candy from online sellers, you will get a large 40-count box in most cases which will show all the same kind of marketing and livery
design.

The company name is usually quite small on the boxes but larger on the actual candy wrappers inside the bags or boxes that you have purchased. Each lollipop is individually wrapped due to the powdered flavoring on the exterior of the sucker. The company logo will be in the top left corner in a small little semi-circle that is red. The actual product name will be proclaimed in the middle of the sucker label with the same cartoon image of the sucker below it.

The back of the box or larger bag will tell you that these lollipops are, “packed with flavor”. And that they offer a sweet and spicy, chili powder-covered taste experience. They also promise notes of mango beneath the spices. There is asix-piece, a 10-piece and a 40-piece bag that you can order, and you can also get a box of these candies, depending on your supplier.

The overall design of these candy products is so much more like the candy marketing that is done in other countries. You will find that there are cute little cartoon people who are linked with each unique sweet, and the wrappers are bright, colorful, and unique. There is none of the staid, quiet, understated livery design in the Vero product lineup that is so common with other Mexican candies. It is easy to spot these products if you are in Mexico looking for sweets. This is likely a design decision that is related to the fact that these candies are sold in so many markets and are not just sold at home in Mexico.

This is one of the products that has had trouble in the past with being sold in the US and Canada due to the amount of lead that the products contain. Testing of tamarind-containing products will often reveal elevated levels of lead that are not allowed in the US and Europe. This was the case for the Vero Mango for many years until corrections were made to the recipe and the production methods to solve this
problem. Many other Mexican candies and products contain too much lead for the US market and for Europe.

This means that you will often have to source this candy snack from an online seller rather than looking to buy it locally. A local grocer might have this product on the shelves, but major grocers will not carry it for this reason. Amazon is one of the best places to get a bag of these treats, and you will be able to get all of the various sizes via Amazon as well.
