Teddy Grahams

History

The Teddy Graham brand sports a delicious graham cracker teddy bear. The teddy bears strike different poses, but you will notice them mostly either standing with their arms in the air or standing with their arms by their sides.

These tasty snacks were first introduced in 1988 so they’ve been on the market for just over 30 years. They were created by Nabisco. They’ve had some different flavors through the years but when they first came out in production, they offered cinnamon, honey, and chocolate. They all came out together.

They had some other flavors through the years too and occasionally will bring out a specialty flavor for people to try out and enjoy. Only a couple of flavors have made it through the test of time. We will talk about flavors more in a bit.

Each teddy is made using graham crackers as the base and then flavors or coatings are added to change the flavor. Through the years, we’ve seen Teddy Graham offerings like Dizzy Grizzlies, which was an iced version of the treat. There have also been Teddy Soft bakes as well as Teddy Grahams breakfast bars. At one time, they even had a limited-edition Disney shapes option.

When Teddy Grahams were introduced, they made a huge bang in the market. They were popular really fast, and they have continued to do well through the years. This product made sold more than $150 million of Teddy Grahams in the first year on the market.

They were the biggest new product release at the time and the largest in more than 25 years. They quickly found their way to the top of the most popular selling cookies and fell into 3rd place in popularity. They continue to hold steady around that spot. When they made it to 3rd place, only Chips Ahoy and Oreos beat them. Interestingly enough, those are both Nabisco products as well. This tells us maybe Nabisco knows their cookies!

Teddy Grahams have also been seen some in the media with debuts in TV shows that you might have seen. On Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Teddy Grahams were used as a prop for one episode. There’s a song called Ridin’ Rims by Dem Franchize Boys that also mentioned Teddy Grahams. Saturday Night Live has used Teddy Grahams in the spotlight. And finally, Teddy Grahams have also been seen and references on The Simpsons.

When Were Teddy Grahams Invented?

Teddy Grahams were first introduced to the world in 1988. Where most brands will roll out just a single flavor at a time, this snack actually came out with three popular flavors all at once. This included their chocolate, honey, and cinnamon flavors.

According to Nabisco, Teddy Grahams are advertised and considered a healthy snack choice. In fact, when nutritionists have called out certain aspects of their ingredients, they have been quick to make adjustments or statements regarding the convictions.

For example, Marian Burros mentioned in a New York Times article that Teddy Grahams were made with a high level of bleached flour. Nabisco responded by adjusting their formula to increase the whole grain flour of their tasty snack and reduce the use of bleached flour. This occurred in 1992. Small changes like these tell us that Nabisco has made an effort to keep this as nutritious as possible for an affordable and reliable snack.

You can look at some other details about the nutritional value and see that Nabisco keeps overall nutrition in mind. They use quality ingredients and even advertise different ways to enjoy the snacks with other healthy options, like apples. Each serving has 8 grams of whole grains now. They also have a high source of calcium.

You will find that they don’t use artificial colors and fillers and they never use high fructose corn syrup either. These are all details that stand out to us in brand quality and mentality. We’re also impressed that they listened and made adjustments after that 1992 NYT article was released.

Who Owns Teddy Grahams?

Teddy Grahams are owned by Nabisco. They have been under the Nabisco brand since they were first introduced. Nabisco is owned by Mondelez International

Teddy Grahams made it to the 3rd most popular cookie on the market after they were introduced. They made record breaking sales at introduction, being the most popular cookie release in 25 years at that time. The other leading cookies on the list were also made by Nabisco.

Nabisco has long remained one of the most popular cookie brands out there. They have several really great options that you would likely recognize. Here are some of their well-known options.

These are just some prime examples. You can certainly find more out there to choose from though.

How Did Teddy Grahams Get Their Name?

Teddy Grahams are named such because they are made with graham crackers and shaped like tiny little teddy bears. We don’t find any special stories that led to the creation, but the name explains itself pretty well when you think about it.

The result of the creation are these delightful graham cookies that look like teddy bears. You will find them routinely in two poses. The first pose is arms by the side with legs open wide and the second is standing straight with arms open wide and raised.

The cookies are unique and designed with nutrition but also very simple and very tasty. They make a great snack for kiddos and can be paired with fruit or dips to keep them more exciting as well.

  1. Teddy Grahams enrage me. They spread false information to young people even 3 years of age, no remorse. They should be in federal prison.
