Butterfinger got its name from a contest that the company held. Butterfinger was the name that won the contest. Interestingly enough, this company actually used to fly airplanes over various cities and they would drop Butterfingers and other candy bars from the planes.

Another fun fact is that Shirley Temple also promoted the Butterfinger. Nestle took over ownership and maintained it for a lot of years but they sold Butterfinger and several others to Ferrero in 2018. 

2. Baby Ruth

Baby Ruth has a very similar back story to that of the Butterfinger. In fact, it was produced by the same candy company and it came out around 1920. The Baby Ruth candy bar is a delightful mixture of peanuts, caramel, nougat, and chocolate coating. When it came out in the 1920s at Curtiss Candy Company, it rose to be their top seller and was a five cent candy at the time. 

In the story of the planes dropping candy bars over cities in the USA, Butterfingers and Baby Ruth’s were the two primary candy bars that were dropped. Baby Ruth was actually a remake of an earlier candy bar known as Kandy Kake from the Curtiss Candy Company. It was more popular than its predecessor. 

Baby Ruth candy bar also went through a long tenure of ownership with Nestle. It was another of the candy bars that Nestle sold in 2018. Now, Ferrero is the owner of Baby Ruth and it continues to be popular and available on the market. 

3. Bit-O-Honey

The 1920s was a really great era for delightful candy productions. Bit-O-Honey debuted to the world in 1924. It was also owned by a company in Chicago, Illinois, named Schutter-Johnson Company. Rather than being a traditional candy bar, this actually had pieces that were much different to it. 

The Bit-O-Honey bar was made with real honey and also had some almond bits in it. The candy was made into something that was very similar to taffy but created like a candy bar. The bar was then separated into 6 pieces of taffy candy that you could pull apart and chew. 

Of course, now, you can find bite-sized options and those are actually more popular than the candy bar model. This particular candy has always been sweet and chewy. It’s still made to be low in fat and it still contains some real honey in it too, although it is no longer the original recipe from 1924. Spangler Candy Company took ownership of Bit-O-Honey in 2020.

Bubblicious is a chewing gum but almost all kids remember enjoying this gum at some point. It comes in these big rectangular pieces that give you a full mouth of gum. They have the original flavor but they also have a ton of other flavors they’ve rolled out over the years. 

Bubblicious was originally owned by Warner-Lambert when it came out in 1977. It has since transferred ownership and is now owned by Cadbury Adams. Originally, it took a while for them to get it off the ground. Once it finally started picking up, there was no turning back. The company was able to expand internationally even.

Baby Bottle Pops are designed with a bottle that holds a flavored powder in it. The lid has a bottle top that is fashioned into a lollipop. It’s a flavor that pairs with the powder. These actually were discontinued in 1997 and gone for a very long time. In 2019, it was announced they would be back in production by a company known as Iconic Candy. The challenge is that they are very limited in production so while there are some out there, it’s hard to find them.

Bubu Lubu is another popular candy but yet hard to find. This candy bar is actually made and sold in Mexico so it’s more popular closer to that area. You might also be able to locate it in Mexican grocery stores or stores with a Mexican aisle in them. It just varies on availability.
