Baby Bottle Pops (History, Flavors & FAQ)

Everyone loves a good lollipop or a lollipop spin-off, right? Baby bottle pops are just that. This lollipop variety gives you a unique combination of a lollipop that looks like a baby bottle nipple and a bottle full of flavored powder to dip into.

History

The baby bottle pop was introduced in 1998 by a brand named Topps. It sported a baby bottle shape with the nipple portion being a sucker and the bottle portion being full of flavored powder. The idea was that you can dip the bottle pop into the powder and enjoy it lick after lick. 

They came in several different flavors and now there are even some cool options that have added things to enjoy with the lollipop and powder. You may have seen some of their commercials in the 90s particularly. 

The jingle talked about how you used the baby bottle pop and that you could stick it in your pocket. You can easily find some of the old recorded commercials if you want to reminisce. It’s definitely a catchy tune. 

In the early 2000s, the Jonas brothers reworked the jingle and gave it some new lyrics but kept a similar tone and approach. Their jingle went a little something like this.

“1, 2, 3, 4…Baby bottle pop, baby bottle pop
You can lick it, shake it, and dunk it
Sweet candy fun!
Baby bottle pop, baby bottle pop
You can lick it, shake it, and dunk it. 

I love it
Gotta have it
Never see me without it
My baby bottle pop!”

This is specific to the Jonas Brothers version of the lyrics. Prior to that, the original lyrics did have some different verbiage in them. 

Back to the candy! These baby bottle pops had a flavored sucker and then the powder in the bottle to dip in was also flavored. The powder was just a powdered sugar that was flavored to match. 

As time moves on, people get more and more creative to maintain interest so now you can find these yummy pops in different flavors and new dipping options. Take, for example, the unicorn version with edible glitter. Does it really get any better than that? 

Of course, they still have all of their original flavors but they do add some fun new options along the way. 

In fact, if you look at the representation for Baby Bottle Pop, they will tell you that they take silliness very seriously. So basically, the lollipop and all of the pieces are designed to promote silliness, which is perfect for the kid in all of us! 

The ingredients in different flavors dos vary but for the most part, you have sugar paired with the things needed to make a lollipop and add color and flavor. A single pop is about 90 calories and we won’t talk about how many grams of sugar – but you already knew it was all sugar right? 

New varieties of the candy include the original style as well as 2D Max, Rattlerz, Popping Powder, Gummy Blast, and even Baby Bottle Pop candy canes. 

The original set of baby bottle pop flavors included 8 specific flavors. We’ve already discussed those have since heavily expanded and changed to bring even other options but the 8 original also still exist. We will cover the details of the flavors later in this guide. 

There were some nasty rumors spread on the internet that Baby Bottle Pops were discontinued due to a choking hazard but this is simply not true. They continue to be produced by Topps Company and continue to be very popular with kids of all ages.

When Was Baby Bottle Pops Invented? 

Baby Bottle Pops were introduced to the market in 1998. They come from the Topps Company and they have been wildly popular from the day they went into distribution. After all, not every candy has that jingle that sticks in your head. 

For that matter, not all candies get a jingle rewritten and advertised by the Jonas Brothers. In fact, when they redid the jingle they did a Baby Bottle Pop Invasion tour that was sponsored by Baby Bottle Pops. 

According to an interview with the Jonas Brothers about this tour in 2007, baby bottle pops were actually one of their lifetime favorite candy options. Their jingle was wildly popular on Nickelodeon but also shared in other avenues. 

Some creative people have even found their own ways to make a version of Baby Bottle Pops at home. 

Who Invented the Baby Bottle Pops? 

Much like plenty of other candies out there, we don’t have a spectacular back story about someone’s brilliant idea to create this delightful candy. 

We just know that the candy was invented and manufactured by Topps Company. We’re sure they had a development team or individuals who crafted new ideas. We love to hear backstories about thought and innovation behind different types of candy but there doesn’t seem to be one for this candy. 

Who knows, maybe someday a story will arise but for now, the invention goes simply to Topps Company with no individual credit or story for the world to enjoy. On the same note, that doesn’t take any of the enjoyment away from the candy, which has been popular for more than 20 years now.

Who Owns Baby Bottle Pops? 

The brand Baby Bottle Pops is owned by Topps Company. The division of Topps that owns the candy and several other candy varieties is actually Bazooka Candy brands. It all falls under the Topps umbrella. 

Bazooka brands are also known for several other popular candy options that are fun and unique. Some of those other items include ring pops, Push Pop, juicy drops, Bazooka gum, and more. Several of these different lines also have a variety of different options within them. 

How Did Baby Bottle Pops Get its Name? 

The naming convention on this one is a no-brainer. The candy is literally made to look like a baby bottle. 

The lollipop is the nipple of the bottle and then you unscrew the lid and there is dipping powder and other items inside of the bottle. You lick the lollipop, dip it, and shake it and then you repeat! 

It really does resemble a small baby bottle so the name just makes sense for what it is, right?
